I ride as well. I too take my time to select just the right jackets. I have 3, a light one for summer, md weight one for spring/fall and a heavy one for winter.

From bitter and painful experience in my youth, I can only agree with you but would now go the armoured route every time. Good article. A lesson often tearnt too late.
